Asiago Awards
Austrian Post received double honours at the 55th Asiago International Philatelic Art Award in Italy – winning both the main prize for the world’s best stamp and the award for creativity. The Asiago Award is considered one of the most prestigious distinctions in philatelic art and has been presented for over 50 years. The jury is made up of international art and design experts who annually recognise the most outstanding stamps worldwide.
“Exiles 1” by Xenia Hausner – best stamp in the world The commemorative stamp "Exiles 1" features a work by Austrian artist Xenia Hausner, one of the country’s most important contemporary painters. Known for her large-format, colour-rich paintings, Hausner explores the ambivalence of flight and arrival in "Exiles 1". The image shows young people at the window of a train – their identities remain open; they could be refugees, or they could be us.
The jury of the Asiago Awards praised the artistic depth and social relevance of the design and awarded the stamp the main prize – a strong statement on the connection between art and philately.
“Beer has it all” by David Gruber – award for creativity The second accolade went to the commemorative stamp "Beer has it all", designed by David Gruber. Issued on 10 October 2024, this technical innovation is made from a genuine beer mat of wood pulpboard, with a removable stamp in the centre. The design shows a foaming glass of beer, enhanced with tactile relief varnish.
The Italian Academy of Philately and Postal History honoured the creative execution and innovative material with the award for creativity – a testament to Austrian Post’s willingness to experiment and its bold approach to design.
