UNESCO World Heritage – Baden bei Wien 17.03.2022
The UNESCO World Heritage “The Great Spa Towns of Europe” comprises eleven spa towns from seven European countries.
Spa (Belgium), Baden-Baden, Bad Ems, Bad Kissingen (Germany), Vichy (France), Montecatini Terme (Italy), Franzensbad, Karlsbad, Marienbad (Czech Republic), Bath (England) and Baden bei Wien representing Austria all embody the special ambiance of historic spa towns where a characteristic urban bathing culture evolved, especially during the 19th century.
The imperial city of Baden is famous for its natural sulphur thermal springs that are used for therapeutic purposes to this day. The stamp motif features “Casino Baden” built between 1884 and 1886 in neo-Renaissance style. Until 1934, it served as a new spa facility, replacing the old “Theresienbad” spa. Since 1995, it has been used as a casino and conference and event centre.
