SWAROVSKI OPTIK - EL binoculars 15.01.2025
This year’s motif from the “Design made in Austria” series, created in collaboration with designaustria, features the EL binoculars by SWAROVSKI OPTIK.
Wilhelm Swarovski, the son of the founder of the Tyrolean family business Swarovski, established SWAROVSKI OPTIK KG in 1949 in Absam, Tyrol, for the production of optical glass of all kinds. The EL binoculars were developed in the late 1990s specifically for birdwatching but soon became popular in the hunting sector as well. The design was created by Werner Hölbl, who received the Austrian National Design Award for various products, including binoculars. Two slim objective tubes are connected by a narrow bridge, allowing for a “wrap-around grip” that ensures comfortable and secure handling. In designing the EL binoculars, particular emphasis was placed on lightweight construction, ease of use, and a smooth focusing mechanism.
