DC Tower 1 17.06.2024
The slender, dark DC Tower 1 has been defining the silhouette of Donau City on the eastern bank of the Danube in Vienna for ten years.
The tower was designed by French architect Dominique Perrault and officially opened in February 2014. At 250 metres tall and with 60 floors, DC Tower 1 is the tallest skyscraper in Austria, primarily housing offices, hotel and seminar rooms. The distinctive wave-like structure on one side of the black glass façade is intended to resemble a broken monolith on one hand and to create a connection to the nearby Danube on the other. Originally, the DC Tower 2 was planned as a visual counterpart to this, but it is currently being constructed with a revised design. The DC Tower 3 has already been completed, and the three towers are intended to form a striking entrance to Donau City, which was conceived in the 1990s as a "second city centre" for Vienna, alongside the historic downtown.
