Commemorative stamp Hohenems Town Hall
EN
The namesake of the RathausQuartier project at the northern entrance to the historic town centre of Hohenems is the new town hall.
The winning design of a Europe-wide competition came from the Vorarlberg-based firm BERKTOLD WEBER Architekten. With its welcoming, outward-facing ground floor, the town hall creates a seamless transition to the city garden and marks the beginning of a shared space that includes the surrounding streetscape. The energy-efficient six-storey building was constructed using an ecological timber-hybrid method, with recyclable materials and energy-saving heating and cooling systems. Natural airflow ensures good ventilation and overnight cooling. In addition to the town hall, which features a prominent clock on its façade, the RathausQuartier will include residential buildings, shops, an underground car park, and a park. The listed Villa Iwan und Franziska Rosenthal is being renovated and transformed into the “Literature House Vorarlberg.”
