The motif from the “Contemporary art” series is by painter and photographer Rudi Molacek, who is known for his versatile artistic work.
Rudi Molacek was born in 1948 in Kindberg, Styria. He studied economics and worked as a fashion model in the 1970s before eventually moving behind the camera himself, successfully photographing campaigns for major brands. From 1986 to 1991, he taught photography at the University of Applied Arts. After coming into contact with the "Neue Wilde" movement in the 1980s, he began painting himself. In his works, Molacek experiments with various materials and techniques, with flowers being a recurring motif. His painting "Midmorning" was created in pure morning light. For a piece of this scale, measuring 3.60 metres in width, the artist stands in the middle of the canvas while painting. This allows him to fully experience the dimensions of the work and paint in a single, fluid motion without stepping back to assess his progress—otherwise, as he puts it, he would "fall out of the painting."
