Citroën Kégresse P15N 17.06.2024
From 1929, Citroën Kégresse P15N vehicles, equipped with caterpillar tracks, were used as postal buses in Austria.
These vehicles, with their rear wheels replaced by a caterpillar track system, were ideally suited for winter road conditions. The half-track vehicles were developed by the French engineer Adolphe Kégresse. The P15N – with the “N” standing for “neige,” the French word for snow – was specifically designed for driving in snow in 1928. The skids on the front wheels made the vehicle steerable even in deep snow, and the caterpillar tracks were equipped with rubber blocks for driving on snow-free sections. Citroën Kégresse P15Ns were used as Austrian postal buses for seven, and later up to eleven passengers, until the 1950s, primarily on mountain roads in the Arlberg region and the Tauern Mountains. In addition to carrying mail, they primarily transported tourists to ski resorts.
