Registered mail and additional services for business clients
Use registered mail or simple registered mail for important business correspondence. We will provide proof of posting and document delivery. In addition, your item is insured against loss, theft, and damage for up to 100 euros. Simple registered mail and registered mail with the option of additional services is only available for ECO and PRIO items.
Depending on how important the content is, you can upgrade registered mail by adding other additional services (deliver to addressee only, advice of receipt, do not deliver to persons authorised to receive mail, etc.)
Simple registered mail cannot be combined with other additional services.
Our additional service “simple registered mail” is available for ECO and PRIO items in the formats S and M letters and S packets. Austrian Post provides proof of posting and documents delivery.
Both sender and recipient can use our item tracking service to view the item status on post.at with the item number. The additional service “simple registered mail” is not available in combination with other additional services (e.g., registered mail, deliver to addressee only, etc.).
In addition, your item is insured up to 100 euros in the event of loss, theft, or damage.

Our service "deliver to addressee only" is available for an additional fee. The item will only be delivered to the addressee personally and not to a person authorised to receive mail on their behalf.

The advice of receipt serves to confirm that a registered letter was successfully delivered to the recipient and that they have signed for it. This advice of receipt will then be forwarded to you so that you can see who accepted your item. Advices of receipt are available free of charge at all Austrian Post service locations.
This paid service is only available in combination with "registered" mail and. The information "Übernahmeschein" ("advice of receipt") must be clearly indicated on the item's address side.
In exceptional cases, letter mail items might not reach their destination. In this case, you can request our item inquiry service for registered letter mail and we will seach for the lost item.
Item inquiries can be requested for domestic or international registered mail items 5 days after posting and within our inquiry deadlines. The following deadlines apply:
- 3 months for parcels and EMS items
- 6 months for registered mail items and insured letters
In the case of international items, it makes sense to wait 2-3 weeks (depending on the country of destination) before requesting an item inquiry.
Information required for item inquiries:
- valid tracking number (see proof of posting)
- detailed description of content
For items from international destinations, inquiries can only be initiated by the sender via the logistics server in the country of question.
