CO2-neutral delivery
EN
Since 2011, Austrian Post has pursued a clear goal with its CO₂ NEUTRAL DELIVERY initiative: to avoid emissions, reduce them, and offset unavoidable emissions. In doing so, we make an active contribution to climate protection – transparent, measurable, and with TÜV-certified compensation through climate protection projects.
By 2030, we aim to achieve CO₂-free nationwide delivery in Austria on the last mile. We walk the talk. These are our three steps to CO₂-neutral delivery.
We focus consistently on avoiding emissions and boosting efficiency in our core operations, particularly in building management and transport. Building infrastructure: By continuously improving the energy efficiency of our buildings – for example, by switching to district heating, installing modern lighting systems and operating our own photovoltaic plants – we sustainably reduce emissions. Vehicle fleet: In delivery, we rely on alternative drives, modern electric vehicle fleets, optimised route planning and regular driver training – ensuring maximum transport efficiency.
Since 2012, Austrian Post has used electricity exclusively from renewable sources, and since 2017, this electricity has been sourced 100% from Austria. Our energy supply is supplemented by our own photovoltaic systems, providing us with solar power.
A key element for CO₂ reduction is the consistent expansion of our e-mobility:
For larger vehicles where alternative drives such as electricity or hydrogen are not yet available nationwide, we use the bridging technology HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) – a renewable fuel made from plant-based residues and waste materials.
Our goal: By 2030, we aim to achieve completely fossil-free last-mile delivery throughout Austria, and by 2050, to reduce our Group-wide direct and indirect CO₂ emissions by 90%.
