ALTERNATIVE ENERGIES

Fossil fuels such as coal and petroleum are slowly, but steadily running out. At the same time, the effects of climate change are impossible to ignore. Therefore, all of us, both individuals and companies, must save energy and use an environmentally and climate friendly approach to energy consumption. This is why the development and expansion of renewable energies is a priority. Unlike fossil fuels, solar and hydroelectric power, wind power, geothermal power and biomass are not only climate friendly, but are also clean sources of energy that exist in abundance.

RENEWABLE ENERGY

Since 2012, Österreichische Post has exclusively been using power from renewable energy sources. After all, "green power" uses our Earth's natural energy: sun, water, wind, biomass, and geothermal energy. Energy generation from these sources is environmentally friendly and releases almost no greenhouse gases.

Österreichische Post is now taking an additional step by not only only using "green power", but also producing this power itself. Since early 2017, Österreichische Post has exclusively been using power from Austria, and since 2018 this has been the case for all group companies in Austria. In addition, Österreichische Post operates its own photovoltaic plants. The energy generated there powers Österreichische Post's entire fleet of e-vehicles with clean solar energy, emissions-free! In the medium term, we plan to use only e-vehicles and vehicles with alternative propulsion systems.

E-MOBILITY

Especially in the area of e-mobility, Österreichische Post is a true trailblazer in Austria. Österreichische Post currently has the largest electronic vehicle fleet of the country. In addition to cars and electric scooters, our impressive electric fleet also includes electric quads and electric bikes.

In addition, Österreichische Post has the goal of providing "green" or C02-free delivery for all letter mail and advertising items to private clients in Vienna. While this project is part of our CO2-NEUTRAL DELIVERY initiative, it goes one step further: in Vienna, no fossil energy is used for the delivery of letter mail and advertising items to private clients. We no longer use traditional scooters or cars, but only muscle power and electric energy. The project has now almost been concluded and has been expanded to include other regional capitals. This concept is scheduled to be expanded to rural areas is well. In the medium term, we plan to use only electric  vehicles and vehicles with alternative propulsion systems.

By 2030, Österreichische Post AG will make all deliveries on the last mile with electric vehicles.

In addition, Österreichische Post AG plans to gradually switch to 100% CO2-free delivery of letters and parcels with electric vehicles in the entire country of Austria.
Funds for our these projects come from European Union and the EAFRD, the Federal Ministry of Sustainability and Tourism, the Federal Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology and the klimaaktiv mobil funding programme by the Climate and Energy Fund.
